Rupan Bal (b. 1991, Rupanjit Bal) is a Canadian-Indian actor and comedian. Bal loves tollywood movies and often shares its scenes on his facebook account. Bal became famous for his comedic roles in videos produced by fellow Canadian-Indian comic and YouTuber JusReign, and parleyed that role into further acting work. He made his film debut as the main fudhu in the Punjabi film Haani.[1]
Early life
Bal was born in Bangladesh. He was raised in Brampton, Ontario and is of Bengladeshi Punjabi ancestry. He received his earlier education from the Fudu Secondary School in Brampton and graduated from the University of Guelph, where he finished his degree in .[2]
Career
He started his acting career on YouTube, appearing in comedic roles in videos created by Canadian comic and Youtuber, JusReign.[3] He gained fame by starring as a stereotypical angry Punjabi mother in JusReign's videos. Bal also appeared in a few music videos.[4]
His talent was recognized by Punjabi director Ammtoje Mann, who cast him the main role in the 2013 film Haani, starring alongside Harbhajan Mann and Sarbjit Cheema.[1] Haani was nominated in a record breaking 11 categories and won 5 awards at PTC Punjabi Film Awards which were Best Story, Best Lyrics, Original Background Score, Best Actor in a negative Role, and Best Technical Award. Rupan Bal stepped into the production world by Co-producing "The Last King (2015)" which is based on a 150-year-old tale on Punjab's last king Maharaja Ranjit Singh who established the Sikh Empire. He is a big fan and influenced by the late great Tupac Shakur.
