Royal Greenwich UTC (formally Royal Greenwich University Technical College) is a university technical college which opened in the New Charlton area of the Royal Borough of Greenwich in London, England in September 2013. The campus of the UTC is located near the banks of the River Thames, close to the Thames Barrier.

Sponsors

The University of Greenwich is the lead university sponsor of the UTC. Other sponsors include Transport for London, Wates Group and Greenwich London Borough Council.[1] The curriculum of the UTC is structured around a series of business projects developed by the sponsors.

Admissions

Royal Greenwich UTC had an initial intake of students aged 14 and 16 (academic years 10 and 12) in 2013, but will expand to accommodate students aged 14 to 19 over the following two years. In the event of applications to the UTC exceeding capacity, priority is given to students living nearest to the UTC campus.[2]

Curriculum

Royal Greenwich UTC specialises in engineering and construction with underpinning themes of transport and new green technologies.[3] pupils aged 14 to 16 study a compulsory core of GCSEs as well additional GCSEs and BTECs that focus on engineering, construction and related fields.[4] Sixth form students have options to study A Levels, BTECs and City and Guilds qualifications which are mainly focused on scientific and technical subjects.[5]
