The Royal Bournemouth & Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs Christchurch Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
A merger first proposed in November 2011 [1] between the Trust and Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the first merger proposed between two NHS Foundation Trusts was blocked in October 2013 by the Competition Commission in its first intervention into the NHS.[2]
In October 2013 as a result of the Keogh Review the Trust was put into the highest risk category by the Care Quality Commission.[3]
In November 2014 the Trust faced difficulties with discharging patients. 70 patients at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital were fit to leave but were still on wards. The Trust said it was considering the possibility of legal action to evict patients.[4]
Dr Basil Fozard, who retired from the Trust in May 2015 and claimed his pension, was re-employed by the Trust in July 2015 as medical director on a salary of £152,000, £20,000 more than his previous salary. This was denounced by the local MP Christopher Chope but defended by the Trust's chief executive Tony Spotswood.[5]
