Local elections where held in Romania on 2 June 1996, and a runoff for mayors on 16 June 1996.[1][2][3]

Results

Democratic National Salvation Front won 928 mayoral seats, USD - 475, CDR - 355, independents - 273, PDAR - 199, PUNR - 147, UDMR - 139, PSM - 120, PL'93 - 61, Greater Romania Party - 57, PAC - 44, PS - 43, MER - 37, PNL (Câmpeanu) - 15, PUR - 7.[4]
