The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Plata (erected 15 February 1897, as the Diocese of La Plata) is in Argentina and is a metropolitan diocese and its suffragan sees include Azul, Chascomús, Mar del Plata, Nueve de Julio, Quilmes and Zárate-Campana. It was elevated on 20 April 1934.

Archbishop Héctor Rubén Aguer was appointed the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Plata in 2000 by Pope John Paul II. On Tuesday, 18 September 2012, he was named by Pope Benedict XVI to serve as one of the Synod Fathers for the October 2012 Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization.[1]
