Naughty But Nice Rob (born Robert James Shuter on 16 July 1973, in Birmingham, United Kingdom) is a gossip columnist, magazine editor, talk-show host, and author.

Overview

Born a British citizen, Shuter immigrated to the United States. At the age of 20, he got his first job in America as a summer intern in the largest Broadway press office, Boneau/Bryan-Brown.

Returning to the United Kingdom to receive his Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, he moved full-time to New York after graduating.

Starting as a receptionist for the public relations company Bragman, Nyman Cafarelli, eventually he was running the entertainment division at Dan Klores Communications representing Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, Jessica Simpson, Naomi Campbell, Diddy, Esquire Magazine, Kate Spade, Estee Lauder, and many of entertainment's biggest events.

In 2007, he left the world of public relations to become executive editor of the struggling American edition of OK! Magazine. As an editor, OK! became the fastest growing magazine in the USA, sold its first 1,000,000[1] issue, and resisted competition, including People magazine, delivering exclusive images of Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Alba, Sheryl Crow, Anna Nicole, and Jamie Lynn Spears' baby.[2] OK! also during that time got the first exclusive interview with Britney Spears post breakdown.

In 2009, Shuter left OK! to become AOL PopEater's first ever gossip columnist, debuting his Naughty But Nice column on one of the most visited online entertainment sites.

In June 2013 Shuter became a cohost on the VH1 daily morning entertainment news and gossip series, The Gossip Table.[3][4]

Early life

Shuter grew up in 32 Sundial Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham with his sister Christine. His other three siblings (Betty, Ann and Douglas) had all left home by the time he was 7 years old leaving him and Christine, who were only 13 months apart, to be brought up as if they were twins.

His father, Douglas Brian Shuter, was a policeman and part-time carpet fitter to help make ends meet while his religious mother was housewife.

At birth he was such a large baby, weighing over 12 lbs, that a metal forceps delivery permanently damaged his right arm leaving it with very little use and resulting in long stays at National Health hospitals throughout much of his early childhood. The hospital stays resulted in missing so much school that private tutors were brought in to help him read and write.

Education

Shutner attended Whitecrest primary school in Great Barr.

Dartmouth High School followed where because of the amount of school he had missed he was put in ‘special education classes.’ He finally graduated with not enough GCSE's to be able to continue into 6th form and went to work for Lloyds Bank after failing his physical to join the police force.

Shuter attended the University of Edinburgh and graduated with a MA in Political Science.

Personal life

Shuter married Grammy Award winning songwriter Bruce Sussman 29 October 2011.[5]

Career

Public relations

After graduating, Shuter started his first paid job at Bragman Nyman Cafarelli, a large Los Angeles based public relations firm that opened a small satellite office in New York City. New York being the media capital of the world was the place when celebrities would visit to do press. Before long he was escorting Kate Hudson, Barry Manilow, Vanessa Williams, and Cameron Diaz to The View, Regis and Letterman. After ending up running BNC small New York entertainment division he left for Dan Klores communications. A company based in New York. At DKC he represented Jennifer Lopez during he breakup with Ben. Jessica Simpson when she split with Nick,[6] Alicia Keys, Diddy, Bon Jovi as well as lots of crisis management clients including Naomi Campbell and Paris Hilton.

Shuter finally decided he wanted to go out on his own and with Jessica and Ashlee Simpson as clients he left to start up The Shuter Group.

Editing

After representing Us Weekly magazine, Shuter approached his friend and owner of OK! Magazine, Richard Desmond, about them becoming a Shuter Group Client. Instead Richard suggested he close his company and come work for him as executive editor at OK! USA. With little formal experience but great skill for knowing what celebrities were hot he turned OK! into the fastest growing magazine in America. Changed the focus from being celebrity friendly to celebrity fair and made sure all the exclusive wedding and baby pictures they bought would actually result in newsstand sales. The first being Anna Nicole’s baby girl, Dannielynn reunited with her father Larry Birkhead. Additional exclusives included Eva Longoria’s and Katherine Heigl's wedding. Plus first baby pictures of Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Alba, Sheryl Crow, plus Jamie Lynn Spears' shocking pregnancy announcement.

Under Shuter’s tenure, OK! moved from last position in the celebrity weekly market to 5th, overtaking Life and Style in market share. It has since sunk back to last since his departure.
