Richard L. Baltimore
Richard Lewis Baltimore III (born 1947) was Ambassador to Oman from October 16, 2002 to March 5, 2006.
[1] Prior to becoming ambassador, Baltimore was the U.S. Consul General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Suspended for 45 days "accepting an Oriental rug and expensive membership to exclusive clubs at luxury hotels in Oman," he appealed to the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia. Judge John D. Bates dismissed the case because Baltimore "failed to prove that the State Department improperly disciplined him." The Office of the Inspector General also found that his wife was allowed to use government cars for personal trips. [2]
Baltimore is a native New Yorker with a degree in International Affairs from George Washington University and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. He speaks French, Hungarian, Spanish, and Portuguese.[1]
He is now the advisor to the board of directors of Omran, Muscat.
