Regina D. Thomas is a former Democratic member of the Georgia State Senate, representing the 2nd District since a special election January 11, 2000.[4] Previously, she was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives from 1994 to 1998.

In the 2008 election, she sought election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's 12th District, running in the Democratic primary against the incumbent, John Barrow.[5] She lost her challenge to Barrow by approximately 50 percentage points.
