Red Lightning was a wargame created and programmed by Norm Koger. In 1989, it was published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. (SSI) initially for the Atari ST and MS-DOS platforms. An Amiga conversion followed a year later. The wargame was set in Europe and hypothesized a Soviet invasion of Western Europe.

Reception

Computer Gaming World gave the game two stars out of five, stating that Red Lightning's user interface had "serious flaws". While the Atari ST version's mouse-driven user interface was not as flawed, the magazine concluded that "the overall ease of use is sorely lacking in what is supposed to be computer entertainment".[1][2]

(Right): The Box Art for 'Red Lightning' was contracted to illustrator Marc Ericksen by Strategic Simulations, and featured Soviet T-80 tanks, with Mig-29s flying air cover, advancing under heavy weather.
