Rebecca Chavez-Houck is a Democratic member of the Utah State House of Representatives and represents House District 24.
Early life and career
Chavez-Houck was born May 17th and earned a BA and an MPA both from the University of Utah. She currently lives in Salt Lake City with her husband Martin and two children and works in public relations. [1]
Political career
In January 2008 Chavez-Houck was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by Ralph Becker becoming mayor of Salt Lake City. Chavez-Houck was elected to a full term in the legislature in November 2008 and currently serves as the minority assistant whip.
During the 2014 General Session Chavez-Houck served on the Executive Appropriations Committee, the House Health and Human Services Committee and the House Government and Operations Committee. [2]

Pivotal bills
Chavez-Houck introduced HB0156S01 during the 2014 General Session that moved to start a pilot program for same-day voter registration. Similar versions of the bill had died in previous years, but the bill was altered during the 2014 session to be a pilot program that counties could opt in or out of as deemed necessary. The bill was passed and signed into law on March 31, 2014. [3]
