Ramagundam city is in the Karimnagar district of Indian state of Telangana.[2] It is the 5th most populous of the state. It is located on the banks of the Godavari River about 250 kilometres (155 mi) north east of the state capital, Hyderabad. At the time of the 2011 census, the city had a population of 229,644.

Geography

Ramagundam is located at 18°48′00″N 79°27′00″E / 18.8000°N 79.4500°E / 18.8000; 79.4500.[3] It has an average elevation of 179 meters (590 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[4][5][6] Ramagundam had a population of 229,644. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Ramagundam has an average literacy rate of 69%: male literacy is 75.3%, and female literacy is 62.4%. In Ramagundam, 8% of the population is under 6 years of age. Ramagundam is a municipal corporation in karimnagar district next to district headquarters.

Somarapu Satyanarayana, won as MLA in 2014 elections from Ramagundam constituency.

Economy

Ramagundam city is situated in the Godavari valley coalfields and has one of the India's largest Thermal Power stations in south region under NTPC. Fertilizer Corporation of India, National Fertilizers Limited, Engineers India Limited are the other major industries.
