Raja Jang (Urdu: راجہ جنگ), is a town and Union Council of Kasur District in the Punjab province of Pakistan.[1] It is part of Kasur Tehsil and is located at 31°13'15N 74°15'7E with an altitude of 196 metres (646 feet).[2] Raja Jang is the largest town in Pakistan. Its population is over 100,000. It is situated at a higher altitude than Lahore. Thr BRB Canal passes the north west side of the town. With its steep and sloping old streets, it enlightens a culture of Sikh and Hindu architecture. It has 100% Muslim population. There exists a problem of clean water here. It is connected with rail and road with the rest of neighbouring towns. Kite flying is a festivity at Eid.

History

The Name Raja Jang is a variation of the name of Raja Jinak. Raja Jinak was a famous person who once lived in Raja Jang under British rule. Raja Jang is a historic town with historic streets, mansions and a couple of castles. After 1947, sikhs and hindus left behind havailiees and mansions. Stories of hidden treasures and underground places of hiding precious belongings are widespread.

Festivals

The main festivals are the Urs of Baba Fateh Shah, Baba Khaki shah. Muslim population of the town shows great interest in celebrating Eid Melad un Nabi (SAW) on 12 Rabi ul Awwal every year. Streets and houses are lit and the town presents a beautiful sight. People came here to celebrate the day from other towns and far away.

Sports

Rassa Kashi is the major sports item of this town. Especially the GOVT. H/S Raja Jang was the divisional champion of Rassa Kashi till 90s in the regime of headmaster Muhammad Aslam Ch. (deceased).
