Radek John (born 6 December 1954, in Prague; Czech pronunciation: [ˈradɛk ˈjoːn]) is a Czech journalist, writer, screenwriter and politician, current chairman of the political party Public Affairs (in Czech: Věci veřejné).[1] His novel Memento is the first book examining the drug problem in the context of the former communist Czechoslovakia.[2] The novel was translated into ten languages.[2]

From 13 July 2010 to 21 April 2011 he served as the Minister of Interior of the Czech Republic.[3]

Early life

In 1979 he graduated at the Prague's FAMU (screenwriting), from 1980 till 1993 he worked as an editor of Mladý Svět magazine. Then he worked as a screenwriter in Barrandov Film Studios.
