R&B Divas: Atlanta (formerly titled R&B Divas) Was an American reality television series on TV One starring several R&B singers. The show offers an inside look at how the award-winning singers balance their music careers and personal lives as they work towards producing an album in memory of Whitney Houston. The series premiered on August 20, 2012, with the premiere delivering a ratings record for TV One, with almost 900,000 viewers tuning in for the show's first episode.^[2]

In February 2013, a spin-off titled R&B Divas: Los Angeles was announced. The cast includes Lil Mo, Chante Moore, Kelly Price, Claudette Ortiz, Michel'le and Dawn Robinson.^[3] The eight-episode first season premiered on July 10, 2013.^[4] In the second season Chrisette Michelle and Leela James joined the cast after the departures of Kelly Price and Dawn Robinson

R&B and soul singer Angie Stone and LaTocha Scott, formerly of the R&B group Xscape, joined the cast for season 2. On November 18, 2013, the series was renewed for a third season.^[5] Season 3 premiered on April 23, 2014, with LaTavia Roberson and Kameelah Williams joining the cast.^[6] Syleena Johnson, Angie Stone, Monifah Carter and Keke Wyatt are returning.^[5] On January 14, 2015, the series was cancelled after three seasons.

Synopsis

R&B Divas: Atlanta stars singers Monifah Carter, Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Syleena Johnson and KeKe Wyatt. The first season chronicles their friendships, professional endeavors and personal lives as they work, play and struggle to get their lives and careers back on track. Spurred by Evans, the quintet comes together to produce a charity album inspired by Whitney Houston. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey. The show deals with a candid look at other career and personal issues affecting the singers, including motherhood, divorce, alcohol, physical abuse and sexuality.^[7] Originally titled Ladies of R&B, R&B Divas: Atlanta is filmed primarily in Atlanta, with additional shooting in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans. ^[8]

Syleena Johnson

Syleena Johnson is a Grammy-nominated singer. She is also the CEO of Aneelys Entertainment and Founder of the Mommy's Got Soul Fitness DVD. A former full-figured Wilhemina Model, Syleena is a fitness advocate who writes her own songs and has found success with singles such as "Guess What", "I Am Your Woman", "Tonight I'm Gonna Let Go", "Hypnotic" and her collaboration with Kanye West, "All Falls Down". Johnson's most recent studio album, Chapter 5: Underrated was released in 2011 and produced the singles "A Boss" and "Angry Girl" featuring Tweet.^[7][9]

Keke Wyatt

KeKe Wyatt is an acclaimed singer and songwriter. At the height of her career, Wyatt's private struggle with domestic violence became the main focus in the media, rather than her newly released album. Wyatt has released three studio albums, the most recent of which, Unbelievable! was released in 2011. Wyatt's hit singles include "Used to Love" and her collaborations with Avant, "My First Love" and "Nothing In This World". In 2012, she reunited with Avant for the song "You & I".^[7][11]

Angie Stone

Angie Stone is a Grammy Award-nominated R&B and soul singer-songwriter, producer and occasional actress. Angie has 4 Top-10 albums and have produced singles such as "No More Rain (In This Cloud)", "Brotha" and "Wish I Didn't Miss You". Stone's most recent album, Rich Girl was released in September 2012 and spawned the single "Do What You Gotta Do". In addition to music, Stone has appeared in films and TV shows such as Moesha and Girlfriends. She also played the role of Big Mama Morton in the broadway musical Chicago in 2003.

Nicci Gilbert

Nicci Gilbert is the former lead singer of R&B group Brownstone, best known for their singles "If You Love Me", "Grapevyne" and "5 Miles to Empty". Gilbert starred in Tyler Perry's play Meet the Browns, and guest starred in an episode of Martin. In 2011, she wrote, directed and starred in a play called Soul Kittens Cabarets with R&B Divas co-stars Faith Evans, and Monifah. She owns an artist development entertainment company No-Ego Entertainment where she produces stage, film and television projects.^[7][13]

LaTocha Scott

LaTocha Scott was a member of R&B group Xscape who rose to fame in the 1990s. The group had several hit singles such as "Just Kickin' It", "Understanding", "Who Can I Run To" and "My Little Secret", and released three successful albums. Scott began an solo career in 1998 and had songs on NFL Jamz and The Best Man soundtrack in 1999. In 2005, she appeared in the film Fair Game opposite Gina Torres. In 2012, Scott has released a new single called "Bad Timing" from her upcoming solo album.
