Quinn Carpenter (born February 24, 1996) is an American ice dancer. With partner Lorraine McNamara, he is the 2014-15 JGP Final Champion and the 2014 U.S. national junior silver medalist.[1]

Career

Carpenter's parents introduced him to ice skating when he was two or three years old.[2] He skated one season with his first partner.[2]

Carpenter began competing with Lorraine McNamara in October 2006.[3] They won the junior bronze medal at the 2012 U.S. Championships but McNamara was too young to be sent to the 2012 World Junior Championships.[4]

The following season, McNamara/Carpenter debuted on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series, finishing 6th and 4th in France and Turkey respectively. They again won the junior bronze medal at the U.S. Championships. Now old enough, they were assigned to the World Junior Championships where they finished 9th.

During the 2013–14 ISU Junior Grand Prix, McNamara/Carpenter won their first international medal, silver, in Latvia and then gold in their next event in Belarus. Their results qualified them to the JGP Final in Fukuoka, Japan, where they won the bronze medal.

McNamara/Carpenter kicked off the 2014-15 season at the Mentor Nestle Nesquik Torun Cup where they placed first. They medaled at both their Junior Grand Prix events in Germany and the Czech Republic, but did not qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final. During the second half of the season, the team won the junior title at the 2015 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and followed up with a silver medal at the 2015 World Junior Figure Skating Championships.[5]

McNamara/Carpenter continued competing in the junior level for the 2015–16 JGP season, they started their Grand Prix events by winning gold at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Colorado Springs followed by another win at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Poland, setting a junior world record score in ice Dance for the free dance and overall scores with a total of 162.63 points. These results qualified them for the 2015-16 JGP Final where they won the gold medal,[6] scoring more than 8 points ahead of silver medalists Alla Loboda / Pavel Drozd.
