Quicksand is an unincorporated community located in Breathitt County, Kentucky, United States. Its post office closed in 1996.[2] At one point in the early twentieth century it was the worlds largest lumber producer with its many sawmills. All the sawmills were closed by 1923. Miles Back owned most of the land there but sold most of it to the Mowbery and Robinson company. Quicksand is the home of the University of Kentucky Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability (RCARS), which includes Robinson Station, Robinson Forest, and the Wood Utilization Center.
