The quasi-elemental is a classification of elemental in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
Publication history
The lightning quasi-elemental first appeared in the first edition adventure The Land Beyond the Magic Mirror (1983),[1] and reprinted in the first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2] The mineral quasi-elemental, the radiance quasi-elemental, and the steam quasi-elemental first appeared in Dragon #125 (September 1987),[3] and the ash quasi-elemental, the dust quasi-elemental, the salt quasi-elemental, and the vacuum quasi-elemental first appeared in Dragon #128 (December 1987).[4]
The quasi-elementals appeared in second edition for the Planescape setting in Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix III (1998): the ash quasi-elemental, the dust quasielemental, the salt quasielemental, and the vacuum quasielemental appeared under the "quasi-elemental, negative" heading, and the lightning quasielemental, the mineral quasielemental, the radiance quasielemental, and the steam quasielemental appeared under the "quasi-elemental, positive" heading.[5]
Description
Quasi-elementals are a fusion of one of the classic elements and either positive or negative energy.
Types of quasi-elementals deriving from elements infused with positive energy include lightning (air), mineral (earth), radiance (fire), and steam (water). Types of quasi-elementals deriving from elements infused with negative energy include ash (fire), dust (earth), salt (water), and vacuum (air).
