Quartzy is an online laboratory management system[1] designed for research labs at pharma, biotech, and academic institutions and organizations. Quartzy is based in Palo Alto, CA, USA.
Quartzy helps research labs manage their lab inventories, submit orders, track documents, and manage shared equipment. Quartzy is free to use for scientists and is supported by its marketplace functionality.[2][3]
History
Quartzy launched in January 2009. In 2010, Quartzy won the Olin Cup[1] and won Business Insider's Startup 2011 competition in New York City.[4][5] Quartzy participated in the Y Combinator accelerator program in Mountain View, CA in summer 2011 and in February 2012 announced that it had raised $1.2M from the Life Sciences Angel Network, SV Angel and other investors as a part of a seed round[6] In 2013, Quartzy raised $4M in venture capital with participation from Khosla Ventures[7] along with other angel investors including Yammer founder, David Sacks[8] and Yelp founder, Jeremy Stoppelman.[9][10] In September 2015, Quartzy announced that they are partnering with Stanford University[11] to make their marketplace service available university-wide[12] In December 2015, Quartzy raised an additional $17M in its Series B, with New York based Eminence Capital leading the round.[13]
Features, and how the site works
Scientists on Quartzy can join or create a "Group". The most common type of group on Quartzy is a group for the scientist's lab.
The core features on the website help with Inventory and Order Requests management[14]
As part of the Order Requests module, active users in the US can utilize the Effortless Quotes service to find better prices on items they are planning to purchase.[3]
