The Pune Marathas are a men's professional American football team from Balewadi, a suburb of Pune, India, slated to play in the Elite Football League of India. The Marathas will begin play in late 2012, and league officials have planned to hold all matches between all ten teams in their home stadium, the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, for the first season.[1]

The Marathas will be one of twelve teams competing in the EFLI's first season. The EFLI will be India's first professional American football league, and its launch is backed by the Government of India and the Sports Authority of India. A roster of players, coaches and team personnel for the team is yet to be announced, although training camps and orientations have been held for those interested in joining the league.[2] One of these training sessions was a five-week training camp led by former NFL player and Arena Football League coach Doug Plank.[3]

The team's debut match will incidentally be the league's first match as well. The Marathas will begin their season by playing against the Mumbai Gladiators in November 2012.[4]
