Pulso: Aksyon Balita (Pulse: Action News) is the first Filipino language late-night newscast of ABS-CBN pitting up against GMA Network's Frontpage: Ulat ni Mel Tiangco. This newscast was anchored by Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon. It was premiered on August 16, 1999 replacing the English language newscast The World Tonight which later moved to its 24-hour news channel ABS-CBN News Channel as the English news relegated to the channel, due to low ratings on English late night newscasts when rival GMA introduced all-Tagalog news broadcast with the relaunch of GMA Network News in 1998 by switching its language from English to Filipino and was anchored by Mike Enriquez and Vicky Morales. At this time, Pulso: Aksyon Balita runs in 15 minutes and later expanded to 30 minutes on October 11, 1999. However in late 1999, Sanchez and Failon were about to be replaced from the newscast since they were taken in only a temporary basis and not permanent for them being anchors. On February 14, 2000, Dong Puno replaced Failon after the latter was clearing the management from the start that the favor for the network is a temporary agreement and Gel Santos-Relos took Sanchez's position at the same day. However, it was cancelled due to low ratings and went its final broadcast on September 29, 2000 and was replaced by ABS-CBN Headlines.

Origin

The name Pulso came from the ABS-CBN's early evening newscast TV Patrol's live discussion segment PULSO or Pangkalahatang Ugnayan Laan Sa Opinyon which was used from 1987 up to 1996 and it revived as Pulso ng Bayan from 2010 to 2012.
