Puerto Cabezas Airport (IATA: PUZ, ICAO: MNPC) is an airport that serves Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. Also known as Bilwi Airport, it is located on Nicaragua's Caribbean coast in the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCN), approximately an hour from Managua by aircraft. Operated by the state of Nicaragua, it mainly serves the city of Puerto Cabezas, located close to the far northeast corner of the country.

It has an asphalted runway, 2,478 m × 51 m (8,130 ft × 167 ft).

Improvement plans

There are plans to make the airport an international airport. The Airport Management Authority of Nicaragua has drawn up conceptual plans for improving the paved areas, taxiways, ramps and an air terminal in Puerto Cabezas.

The new air terminal has a total area of 477 m2 (5,130 sq ft) and a 2,400 m2 (26,000 sq ft) parking lot for 30 vehicles. The terminal facilities are modern and air-conditioned. Immigration and customs services are also provided, but must be coordinated by respective authorities.

Transport links

The airport is approximately one kilometre from the city center, and there are taxis, buses, and other forms of transportation available.

Airlines and destinations

The terminal currently services daily regular flights by airline Avianca Nicaragua as well as for charter flights (air taxis) to Managua and other air terminals on the Caribbean coast. The terminal operates during daytime only.
