Public Health Wales

Public Health Wales was established as an NHS trust on 1 October 2009.

Public Health Wales aims[1] to protect and improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities in Wales. It delivers four statutory functions:[2]

As of 2014 Public Health Wales employs 1,248 staff across Wales. The organisation’s level of income for 2013/14 totals £102.9m

A Board[4] is responsible for Public Health Wales’ strategic direction, governance framework, organisational culture and development and stakeholder relations. It comprises a Chair, six Non Executive Directors and five Executive Directors, led by a Chief Executive.[5] Professor Sir Mansel Aylward is the Chair.

The Executive Directors and three other Board level Directors make up the Executive Team,[6] which manages Public Health Wales. Each year Public Health Wales is required to conduct a self-assessment and demonstrate improvement against the Healthcare Standards for Wales.[7]
