2015 President's Cup

The President's Cup is an Irish football competition between the winners of the previous season's League of Ireland Premier Division and FAI Cup. Founded in 2014 the trophy is awarded to the winning side by President of Ireland and League of Ireland fan, Michael D. Higgins.[1] The inaugural President's Cup was between 2013 League of Ireland champions St Patrick's Athletic and 2013 FAI Cup winners Sligo Rovers at Richmond Park on 2 March 2014.[2][3][4] On 25 February 2014 the President's Cup trophy and medals were unveiled at Áras an Uachtaráin by Higgins. In attendance was St Patrick's Athletic manager and captain, Liam Buckley and Ger O'Brien as well as their counterparts from Sligo Rovers, Ian Baraclough and Gavin Peers.[5] The inaugural President's Cup was won by St Patrick's Athletic, after they beat Sligo Rovers 1–0 with a Keith Fahey volley.[6]

The competition should not be confused with the former LFA President's Cup run by the Leinster Football Association. It pitted the best placed league side from Leinster against the furthest progressing side from Leinster in the previous years FAI Cup.

For three seasons from 1998-2000 the FAI ran a super cup featuring the four clubs who had qualified for Europe.
