Pragya Jaiswal is an Indian film actress and model.[3] She has appeared in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films.[4]

Early life

Pragya Jaiswal was born and brought up in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. She went on to study at the Symbiosis Law School in Pune.[5]

During her initial days at the Symbiosis University, she participated in the Miss Pune contest on the insistence of a friend; she won it and (to her surprise) got a wild card entry into the Femina Miss India 2008, where she was crowned Miss Fresh Face, Miss Dancing Queen and Miss friend of the earth.[6] (She went on to finish her graduation in Pune after the Miss India Contest). After her graduation, she moved to Mumbai to join a law firm; however, as the joining date got delayed she modeled for a series of advertisement campaigns for big brands.[7] She went on to work as a ramp model, doing various fashion shows.[8] On January 22, 2014 she received the Symbiosis Sanskritik Puraskar for her achievement in the field of art and culture.[9]

Career

Jaiswal made her acting debut in the Bollywood film Titoo MBA. Her maiden release became the Tamil film Virattu,[10] later released in Telugu, too, as Dega. She then got the lead role in Indo-Canadian director Keshhav Panneriy's children's fiction film A Little Heaven In Me,[11] with the makers choosing her over Mallika Sherawat,[12] since they found Jaiswal "promising" and her onscreen presence "charismatic".[13] Although the film was launched in 2013,[14] it did not enter the principal photography phase.

In 2015, she first starred in Mirchi Lanti Kurradu and later in the period drama Kanche directed by Krish. Jaiswal had previously auditioned for a role in Krish's Gabbar Is Back. She did not land that role but Krish later offered her the female lead role in Kanche.[15] She portrayed Seetha Devi, the daughter of a wealthy landlord, who falls in love with Hari Babu (Varun Tej) who later goes on to fight in World War II. She received generally positive remarks for her performance, with most critics, in particular, complimenting her on her looks.[16][17][18] 123telugu.com wrote, "She looks stunning and should thank Krish for her big break. Pragya has amazing screen presence and is a star to watch out for".[19] In November 2015 she was named as a lead actress in Ravi Teja's upcoming Telugu film Yevado Okadu.[20]

Among many other brands she has done a commercial for or endorsed recently includes Dabur Vatika Anti-dandruff shampoo, millennium hypermarket for Dubai and UAE, Ensure Health Drink, Dove (toiletries) Shampoo, Malabar Gold, Reliance Digital, FBB (Fashion at Big Bazaar), South India Shopping mall etc.[1]
