PowerReviews develops and markets consumer engagement technology for brands and retailers. The company has offices in Chicago, London and San Francisco.[1]

PowerReviews was founded in 2005 by Andy Chen and Robert Chea. The company has raised $40.1 million in venture capital from investors including Draper Richards, Menlo Ventures and Tenaya Capital. PowerReviews provides technology and tools for retailers and e-commerce companies to host product reviews on their websites.[2] PowerReviews also works with brands and manufacturers to syndicate reviews from their sites to e-commerce sites where their products are being sold.[3] PowerReviews is an approved ratings aggregator for Google's Product Listing Ads in the United States and United Kingdom.[4] PowerReviews also operates product reviews and recommendations sites Buzzillions.com and Viewpoints.com.[2]

As of 2014, PowerReviews has more than 22 million consumer reviews and over 1,000 clients.[5] Clients include Ulta Beauty, Lord & Taylor, Sports Authority, Skechers, Room & Board and Hammacher Schlemmer.

Acquisition by Viewpoints

In 2012, PowerReviews was acquired by competitor Bazaarvoice for $168 million.[6][7] The acquisition was blocked by the United States Department of Justice for antitrust concerns.[8] The antitrust concerns focused on the ratings and review industry's relatively small marketplace and the potential importance to adjacent industries. [9] In 2014, consumer reviews company Viewpoints purchased PowerReviews from Bazaarvoice. The two companies combined under the PowerReviews name.[10][11]
