Poonthura is a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, India. It is on the landing path of flights to Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

Location
A bypass of National Highway 47 passes through Poonthura, on its way to Kovalam. Buses, both private and owned by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation ply to Poonthura from East Fort. It is also connected by bus to other parts of the city.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is around 6 km from Poonthura.
Places of interest
- Karamana River falls into the Arabian Sea at Poonthura Pozhi.[2] This is a breath-takingly beautiful place.
- Puthanpalli Mosque - an important Muslim shrine.
St. Thomas church- A well known church in Trivandrum Archdiocese. Only 6 km distance to railway station
Famous Poonthura Shastha temple & Devi temple are also here. Famous Poonthura Swamy Samadhi are situated here in this place
Economy
It is basically inhabited by fisherfolk. A good number of people are employed in foreign countries, especially in the Persian Gulf.
