Polycarpose Geevarghese Metropolitan

H.G Mor Gheevarghese Mor Polycarpus(1933-2011)[1] was the Metropolitan of Evangelistic Association Of The East[2] and Honnavar Mission[3] of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church.[4]

Early Life

Mor Polycarpus was born to Mr. Mathew Philipose and Mrs. Eliyamma in 1933 April 05 of Nadayil Mulanilkkunnathil Famil, Chennithala,Pathanamthitta District, Kerala. St. George Jacobite Syrian Church, Chennithala[5] was his home parish. Mor Polycarpus had his schooling at Eramathoor Ilavumood Primary School and NSS High School, Mannar. He completed SSLC in 1950.Rather than joining to study Civil Engineering, he had decided to dedicate his life to Serve the church.This brought him to the Evangelistic Association Of The East (EAE) headquarters in Iringole, near to Perumbavoor in 1995 which was The first Missionary Association under the Patriarch of Antioch. Since then he had been a part of EAE and served the organization and church.

Ordination

He was ordained as Korooyo in the year 1956 by Late Lamented Mor Yulius Elias Qoro at Manjanikkara St. Ignatius Dayaro. Mor Yulius Elias ordained him as Kassisso in 1957 at Manjanikkara Dayaro. He started his pastoral service in Kozhichal and Kottamala parishes in Kasarkod district and also as vicar at St.Marys Church Meenangadi.[6](Kerala).[7][8]

Metropolitan

On May 27, 1990 Ver Rev M P George Cor Episcopo was ordained as the Metropolitan of EAE and conferred the name Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese by HH Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas. The additional charge of Honnavar Mission was also given to Mor Polycarpus. Established various charity and social services and visited the South Canara Region(including Mangalore). Thereafter new priests were ordained and regular Sunday services were started in almost all the churches under the EAE and Honnavar Mission. Very Rev P J Jacob Cor Episcopo (Metropolitan Mor Anthonios Yaq'ub), Fr Jacob Markose ( Metropolitan Mor Chrisostomos Markose)[9], Fr Ullas Varkey ( Metropolitan Mor Irenios Paulose).
