POD Children's Charity

Pod Children's Charity (registered Pod Charitable Trust no: 279743) is an English non-profit organisation who provide live entertainment for children in hospital and hospices.[1] Pod employs carefully chosen professional children's entertainers, who perform in the playroom, on the ward or at the bedside.[2][3] Pod Organises monthly shows at over 150 hospitals and hospices across the UK and over the years Pod Children's Charity has entertained over 1,000,000 children.

Aim

Pod helps to alleviate the trauma of hospital stay by sowing the seeds of fun, laughter and feeling better. Pod has always believed that happy children get better faster.[4]

Mission

Pod provides shows at most hospitals and hospices in the UK which admit children.[5]

History

Pod was founded in 1977 by David Jamilly at Great Ormond Street Hospital. In 1981 Margaret Munford became Administrator for Pod and was awarded an MBE in 2012 for services to Pod Children's Charity.

The League of Friends of Pod (Charity no: 296119) is an entirely separate organisation who cover all of Pod Charitable Trust’s administrative costs. This means that any donations to Pod Children's Charity go directly to entertaining children in hospital.
