Plasmonic laser
A plasmonic laser is a type of laser which aims to confine light at a subwavelength scale far below the Rayleigh's diffraction limit of light, by storing some of the light energy through electron oscillations called surface plasmon polaritons.[1][2][3][4] Due to the role of the surface plasma excitations in their operation, they are sometimes called SPASERs (from Surface Plasmon Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation).[5]
On the applied front, myriad prospects could arise, among them the fabrication of ultra-fast photonic nano circuits with unprecedented performance and the improvement of techniques such as nanolithography and single-molecule biochemical sensing.
