Philipp Charles, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau
Philipp Charles, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau (14 September 1677 – 2 April 1736), was a member of the German House of Erbach who held the fiefs of Fürstenau, Michelstadt and Breuberg.
Born in Schönberg, he was the third child and second (but eldest surviving) son of George Albert II, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau and Anna Dorothea Christina, a daughter of Count Philipp Gottfried of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg.
Life
Like several others members of his family, Philipp Charles pursued a military career, and became General-major of the Franconian Circle.
After the death of his father in 1717, he ruled jointly with his brothers over all their inheritance, although he managed to kept the sole government over him. In 1718 he became sovereign Lord of Breuberg.
Philipp Charles died in Fürstenau aged 58 and was buried in Michelstadt.
Marriages and Issue
In Kleinheubach on 4 December 1698 Philipp Charles married firstly with Charlotte Amalie (17 April 1677 – 8 July 1722), a daughter of Johann Dietrich, Count of Kunowitz and his wife Dorothea of Lippe-Brake.[1] They had four children:[2][3][4]
- Caroline Amalie (29 September 1700 – 7 May 1758), married on 19 June 1726 to Ernst Frederick II, Duke of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
- Henriette Albertine Sophie Eleonore (9 February 1703 – 30 July 1704).
- Louise Eleonore (12 August 1705 – 7 June 1707).
- Johann William, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau (13 February 1707 – 1 August 1742).
In Unsleben on 22 July 1723 Philipp Charles married secondly with Anna Sophie (16 September 1693 – 10 January 1767), a daughter of Kaspar, Baron of Spesshardt in Unsleben and Mupparg. They had seven children:[2][3][4]

- Charlotte Wilhelmine (19 April 1725 – 9 March 1739).
- Ernest Louis Eginhard (11 November 1726 – 21 January 1727).
- Louis II Frederick Charles Eginhard, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau (12 May 1728 – 16 January 1794).
- Sophie Caroline Christine Louise Eleonore (6 January 1730 – 23 September 1737).
- George Albert III, Count of Erbach-Fürstenau (14 June 1731 – 2 May 1778).
- Philipp Charles Dietrich (3 March 1733 – 29 May 1735).
