Philip A. Cutler (born October 17, 1988) is a Canadian born politician, entrepreneur, philanthropist and business executive.
Professional career
Philip Cutler is the CEO of educational technology company GradeSlam[1] (f. 2014) and the Executive Director of Laurus Summer Camp (f. 2011).[2]
In 2013, Cutler became the youngest ever city councillor in Westmount, Quebec,[3][4] the wealthiest city in Quebec.[5] Cutler won the 2013 Westmount Municipal Election after receiving 58% of the popular vote. He is currently the Commissioner of Public Security[6] and was instrumental at introducing many traffic and parking related initiatives.[7] He has been credited with bringing the first pay-by-plate parking meter system to Quebec.[8]
In December 2015, Cutler pledged $50 000 to support Syrian refugees moving to Montreal.[9]
Education
He holds a bachelor's degree in Education from McGill University (2013). During his time at McGill, Cutler held office on the McGill Senate[10] and was a linebacker on the McGill Redmen football team alongside Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Winnipeg Blue Bombers linebacker Jesse Briggs.[11] He is also a graduate from Selwyn House School and John Abbott College.
Personal life
His grandmother, May Cutler was the first female mayor of the City of Westmount from 1987-1991 and the founder of Tundra Books, the oldest children's book publisher in Canada. Cutler's grandfather, Phil Cutler Sr., after whom he was named, was a Canadian labour lawyer and Quebec Superior Court judge. His parents, Adam and Marina were paramount in the gentrification of the real estate around the Lachine Canal. Cutler's sister, Samantha, is a well known Canadian lifestyle blogger.
