The Pelgorskoye peat railway emerged in the 1950s in the Tosnensky District in a settlement named Ryabovo. The railway was built for hauling peat and workers, and operates year-round with several pairs of trains a day.[2] In 2001 the Pelgorskoe-M Peat Company started replacing equipment and repairing the narrow gauge railway between the mine and the processing facilities. A peat factory was built and put into operation in 2004.
