Panellinios V.C. is the volleyball section of Panellinios G.S., the Greek multisport club based in Athens. It was one of the first volleyball clubs in Greece and one of the most successful since it has won six championships.[1] Panellinios has also a women's team that has won two championships and one cup.[2]

History

Panellinios was one of the first volleyball clubs in Greece. The sport trainer of Panellinios Anastasios Lefkaditis is considered the man who imported the volleyball in Greece.[3][4] Panellinios took part in the first unofficial volleyball championships along with Panionios and Ethnikos Athens. It was the first winner of the official Greek championship in 1936. It won 6 overall championships until 1961. The last years the team plays in A2 Ethniki (2nd-tier).

Honours

Women's team

Panellinios has a volleyball team that dominated in Greek women's volleyball during period 2000-2002. The team won two women's championships (2001, 2002) and one women's cup (2001). In 2012, the team withdrew from championship due to financial problems and nowadays it plays in lower local divisions.[5]
