Paint Township is a township in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,300 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 83.2 km² (32.1 mi²). 82.8 km² (32.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.44%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,300 people, 1,323 households, and 985 families residing in the township. The population density was 39.9/km² (103.2/mi²). There were 1,386 housing units at an average density of 16.7/km² (43.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.73% White, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.52% of the population.
There were 1,323 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.5% were non-families. 23.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the township the population was spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $32,649, and the median income for a family was $39,071. Males had a median income of $30,975 versus $18,571 for females. The per capita income for the township was $14,694. About 3.4% of families and 4.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.3% of those under age 18 and 1.0% of those age 65 or over.
