Paayum Puli is a 1983 Tamil action film directed by SP. Muthuraman and starring Rajinikanth and Radha. It was a blockbuster and completed a 133-day run at the box office.

Plot

When a smuggler kills his sister, a naive, immature man (Rajinikanth) vows to deliver justice for her death and joins a martial arts school. He trains hard there to become a master fighter, honing his fighting skills. Taking on a new identity, Paayum Puli (Pouncing Tiger), he sets off for revenge, but the affection of a beautiful woman (Radha) soon puts a hitch in his plans.

Production

Bruce Lee was immensely popular throughout the world and his films were huge hits. Cashing on the huge success of 36th Chamber Of Shaolin, S. P. Muthuraman and Panju Arunachalam designed the story of a helpless person who takes training in a martial arts school to avenge the death of his sister. Rajini worked hard on action scenes. Fight master Judo Ratnam was appreciated for his innovative action scenes. Paayum Puli was a hat-trick success for Rajini-AVM-SPM combo.[2][3]

Sound track

The music was composed by Ilaiyaraaja and lyrics were written by Vaali.[4] The song "Aadi Maasam" was well received and it was late remixed by Srikanth Deva in the film Thottupaar (2010).[5]
