The PES Modern College of Engineering, Pune, popularly known as Modern or MCOE, is a Private engineering institute located in Pune.[2] The college is approved by All India Council of Technical Education(AICTE), New Delhi, Directorate of Technical Education(DTE),[3] and Government of Maharashtra and is permanently affiliated to University of Pune,[4] complying with all the norms and standards of engineering education. It is UGC recognized under 2(f) and 12(B) and NAAC accredited. The college has been awarded as the "Best College in the Urban area" by University of Pune.[1]
History
Progressive Education Society was established in year 1934 by an eminent educationist Prof. S. R. Kanitkar. This prime society successfully runs various institutes right from kindergarten level to Post Graduation level. Prof. S. R. Kanitkar was of great inspiration to the people who joined hands with him in implementing the idea of starting a new high school in Pune city. It was an uphill task in those days. The ambitious plan of Modern College of Engineering was initiated in the academic year 1999-2000.
Campus
- P. E. Society’s Modern College of Engineering is located in the heart of Pune city at Shivajinagar, off Jangli Maharaj Road. It is approximately spread over 12 acres.
- There are numerous lecture halls and laboratories for engineering and management studies students.
- Other facilities in the institute include canteen, gymnasium and ieee xplore.
- Sports : There is centrally located playground inrush with sports person during winter. The college has a Basketball court & society badminton hall containing numerous Badminton courts.
- Auditorium : The college campus has famous auditorium accommodating 320 spectators at a time and is the venue for Pune's numerous events throughout the year.
- Library : The library subscribes to various National/International Journals.It has Reading hall with seating capacity of 250 students.

Research and Development Cell
The Institute has R & D cell with an objective to promote &encourage the research & Development activities for the social in large & in particular benefit of the academic progress. The R&D cell consists of the committee of members which include Director, Principal, Vice-Principal, Dean R&D cell, head of every department, & interested faculty members of the departments. The cell provides a supportive environment to achieve excellent out comes from students and teaching faculties.
Activities of the cell include
- Sponsored projects by industries as U.G / P.G. Projects.
- Research projects undertaken by a group of faculty.
- Consultation offered by faculty members on problems faced by industries.
- Organization of Refresher courses for Industries.
- Arranging lectures of experts from industry & funding agencies.
- Recommending & forwarding for approval &as well as financial aid from funding agencies for the project proposals submitted by faculty members.
To promote the research and for the development of students as well as of faculty members, the decisions taken by the committee members include extension of facilities are:
- To allow the access to the laboratory after office hours so as to ulitility the facilities.
- To allow to access library facilities after office hours.
- To grant funding for registering the participation in International/National conferences & workshops.
The members of R&D cell along with other research minded colleagues are strongly interested in creating and strengthening partnership as well as interaction with industries, research funding agencies as well as significant institutions and organizations to result maximized research outcomes.
Festival
- m-pulse :- This festival is celebrated in month of February. It is an inter-collegiate technical fest hosted individually by departments.It comprises a variety of events such as workshops, seminars, debates, quizzes, management games and fun events.
- spandan :- The cultural festival clubed with gathering includes drama, Street Play, Singing competitions and many other creative events. It is also celebrated in February.
Training and placement cell
Training and Placement Cell helps in placement of the students.
The institute has contacts with firms like TCS, mahindra, L & T, Wipro, Force Motors, Tata Technologies, Capgemini, Cognizant, IGATE, Atos Origin, Suzlon for placements and other professional activities like guest lectures and project exhibitions. [5] The institute has tie ups with many companies for internships.
