PBC Tirana is an Albanian professional basketball team based in Tiranë, who compete in the Albanian Basketball League and they play their home games at the Farie Hoti Sports Palace. PBC Tirana are one of the most successful teams in the history of Albanian basketball, having won the Albanian League 18 times, the Albanian Cup 16 times and the Albanian Supercups 7 times.[1] They have won a total of 41 trophies, and only BC Partizani Tirana have won more in Albania with 49.
History
On August 16, 1920, the patriot P. Nika altogether with gentlemen A. Erebara, P. Jakova, A. Hoxha, A. Koja, P. Berisha, A. Zajmi, H. Fortuzi, B. Pazari, L. Berisha, S. Frasheri, H. Alizoti, A. Gjitomi and V. Fekeci founded "Agimi Sports Association". In 1927 on the initiative of Mr S. Stermasi, Mr A. Erebara, Mr A. Zajmi and Mr A. Koja, "Agimi" changed its name to Sportklub Tirana (SK Tirana). PBC Tirana are 18 times Champions of Albania, and also 16 times winners of Albanian Cup. PBC Tirana have also taken part in European competitions, and in many friendly international tournaments, where occasionally have reached several successes. Unforgettable the matches against 1971-72 Champions Club's Cup finalists, KK Jugoplastika Split in the 2-nd round, after eliminating in the first round Cercle Jeunesse winning both matches, white and blue team performed well despite 77-90 loss in Tirana and 58-85 loss in Split. Or the matches against Cup Winners of 1973-74 season, Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, home and away losses 83-99 and 70-114.
Since 2000, a new era has started for white and blue team. Winning 8 trophies within 4 years, with only a short period of interruption between years 2004-06, they returned to win another 5 titles, 5 cups and 5 supercups. Last 2 years, however, due to key players leaving abroad and rivals Kamza Basket and Vllaznia reaching their peak, Tirana hasn't been able to lift trophies. But there they are still, competing strongly each season for glory and trophies.
