Title Rev. Dr.

P. G. George (born 1960[1]) is an Old Testament Scholar[9] who is presently[10] Dean of Studies at the South Asia Theological Research Institute, Serampore, West Bengal.

As an Old Testament Scholar, George's research works have been reviewed in the Toronto Journal of Theology[11] and the Elenchus of Biblica.[12] George researched on the Hebrew Bible using the methodology of Semantics which puts him among the Translation scholars in the line of Basil Rebera. Concerning the scholarship of George, the Old Testament Guru, Anthony Raymond Ceresko wrote,[13]

George's thorough analysis of the terms for "Rod" has brought to light important nuances of meaning in the Hebrew vocabulary, especially with regard to the principal words, מַטֶּה matteh and sḗbeṭ. The insights uncovered by Dr. George's work offer valuable information for scholars involved in Bible translation, Hebrew lexicography, and the study of the societal patterns in ancient Israel

George is a member of the Society for Biblical Studies, India which has been a scholarly society since the past fifty years for Biblical scholars of the Protestant, Orthodox, Catholic, and Charismatic Churches and has attended the biennial conclave of the Society for Biblical Studies, India in 2014 held at Bangalore which elected Fr. P. Joseph Titus as its President for the biennium 2014-2016.

Writings

Studies

George is attuned to the Canadian scholarship having researched in Toronto, the very place where the Baptist Pastor and Maramon Convention speaker A. B. Masilamani studied along with Wolfgang Roth, both of whom later taught at major seminaries in Jabalpur and Kakinada during the sixties.

Postgraduate

George pursued postgraduate[13] studies at Wycliffe College, Toronto during 1983[14] where he specialized in Old Testament supervised by Stanley Walters.[3] It was during this period that George enrolled[13] for a Hebrew Reading class at St. Michael's College, Toronto where he was taught[13] by the Old Testament Scholar, Anthony Raymond Ceresko[20] whom George considers him as his Guru.

Doctoral

Continuing his studies at the Wycliffe College, Toronto, George enrolled for a doctoral programme during the Principalship of Reginald F. Stackhouse where he was once again supervised by Stanley Walters.[3] George's doctoral thesis was entitled The Rod in the Old Testament: A Study of Vocabulary and Function which was also read by Anthony Raymond Ceresko who served as one of the Examiners.[13]

In 1988,[21] the University of Toronto awarded a doctoral degree, Th.D. to George on completion of his doctoral studies.
