Oscar Forman (born 16 January 1982) is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). Forman played for the Adelaide 36ers from 2001 until 2006, winning a championship with the club in 2002, before moving to the New Zealand Breakers for the 2006–07 season. While playing primarily as a power forward, Forman is often used as a small forward where he has gained a reputation as specialist three-point shooter.
Career
Forman played as a junior for the Sturt Sabres and represented the Sabres in the Central Australian Basketball League, earning the Woollacott Medal in 2005 for being the Central ABL's best and fairest. Other honours include being chosen as a member of the Australian team that competed at the 2003 World University Summer Games in Korea, and was also part of the Boomers' extended squad chosen for the Commonwealth Games in 2006, but did not get selected for the final team. He also led the NBL in three-point shooting % in the 2004–05 season, with an average of 47%.
In the 2007 and 2008 NBL off-seasons, he played for the Harbour Heat of New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL), earning All-Star Five honours in his first year with the club.[1]
In July 2007, he re-signed with the Breakers on a three-year contract.[2]
In April 2010, Forman signed a one-year deal with the Wollongong Hawks.[3] He was awarded the 2010–11 NBL Most Improved Player award, capping off a successful move to Wollongong. In 2011, he re-signed with the Hawks on a two-year deal.
Forman was named as the starting small forward for the North All-Stars at the 2012 NBL All-Star Game played at the Adelaide Arena. He joined fellow Hawks players Adris Deleon and Lance Hurdle, as well as his Wollongong coach Gordie McLeod who was the coach for the North team. Forman also participated in the All-Star Three-Point Shootout.
On 5 May 2013, Forman re-signed with the Hawks for the 2013–14 NBL season.[4] On 30 June 2014, he re-signed with the Hawks on a two-year deal.[5] On 2 November 2014, Forman played his 400th NBL game, becoming just the 43rd player in NBL history to reach such a feat.[6][7]
On 1 July 2015, Forman signed a one-year deal with the renamed Illawarra Hawks.[8]
