North Quay is a ferry wharf in the Brisbane CBD used by the CityCat and the CityFerry on the Brisbane River.
Location
They are located off Queens Wharf Road and connect directly to the Bicentennial Bikeway. They are the closest ferry wharves to the Queen Street Mall and the rest of the Brisbane CBD. They lie under and to the south of the CBD end of the Victoria Bridge. This terminal provides the closest access point to the Conrad Treasury Casino.
Description
The terminal comprises a long L shaped pier with one pontoon (Wharf 2) at the junction of the long and short arms and the other pontoon (Wharf 1) at the free end of the shorter arm. Each pontoon has a single docking station. Generally, the CityCats coming downstream and upstream tie up at pontoon 2. However, at times, when two CityCats arrive at the same time, those coming upstream tie up at pontoon 1. The CityFerry service however uses only pontoon 1 as its upstream terminus. The terminal has a covered passenger waiting area, with a Telstra pay phone and a drinking water fountain. Two flights of stairs across the Bicentennial Bikeway connect the head of the terminal to the Brisbane CBD via William Street. Parking used to be available on the Queens Wharf Road but was closed down from March 2009. Pavement motorbike parking is available at the head of the stairs connecting the terminal to William Street.
Destruction in the January 2011 floods and subsequent re-opening
In January 2011 the wharf was destroyed during the devastating floods and the rebuilding works were expected to take months.[1]
The terminal was re-opened on 18 April after temporary measures were put in place by the Brisbane City Council to restore CityCat operations.[2]
