North Orissa University is a public and open university in the regional city of Baripada in the state of Odisha, India. Its jurisdiction extends over two districts, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. There are 80 affiliated colleges, general and professional, catering to the demand of higher education. This university mainly provides higher education through the on-campus as well as distance education mode. It aims to provide job-oriented technical courses.[2]

The Government of Odisha under the Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989), established the North Orissa University and notified vide notification No. 880 dated 13 July 1998. The university is included in the list of Universities maintained under section 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, to impart higher education in the Tribal base area of Northern Odisha.

Campus location

Baripada, the district headquarters of Mayurbhanj, Odisha, is a land of the famous Sri Jagannath Temple, Maa Kichakeshwari Temple and Maa Ambica Temple, enriched with green forests bristling with colourful wild life, rich in art, architecture and sculpture. Devkund and Bhimkund, the picturesque waterfalls, Khiching Temple etc., the places for pilgrimage are nearby.

This city is easily accessible by rail (South-Eastern Railways) and road (NH-19, India).
