No Turning Back: The Story So Far is the first compilation album by Shannon Noll, celebrating multiple number ones taken from his three multi-platinum albums. The album contains Noll's ten biggest single releases and includes five brand new tracks. The ten hit singles are comprised from Noll's three studio albums, 2004's That's What I'm Talking About, which was an Australian #1 album, certified 5x Platinum; Lift, his 2005 #1 Australian album, certified 3x Platinum; and his most recent 2007 effort, Turn It Up, additionally certified Platinum.
Noll was extremely excited about the record before its release, stating:
"It was only once we started talking about the idea that it sank in how many singles there's been, from 'What About Me' right through to 'Loud' and 'In Pieces'. All these songs mean so much to me and showcase a journey that I've been through with my songwriting and recording, my career in general. It's great to have the new songs on the album, as they are just a taste of what we've got planned for next year!"[1]
Singles
The first single taken from the album was "Summertime", which was originally by 2007 Canadian Idol Brian Melo. The track was played on Australian radio, and reached number eighteen on the Australian Artists Singles Chart based on downloads alone.
"No Turning Back" was released to radio as the second single from the album on 14 November 2008 and was scheduled to gain a full release in time for Christmas, 2008. However, due to scheduling difficulties, the single was postponed until early 2009, but then finally cancelled due to Sony BMG wanting "breathing space" before the release of Noll's then-forthcoming fourth studio album, which was due to be released in 2009, but as of 2011, has not yet been released. The song received airplay on various Sydney radio stations such as Nova 96.9, Mix 106.5 and C91.3. 2DayFM officially added the track to its playlists, but never promoted the song much further, as Sony BMG did not give the song a full release. Consequently, the song did not chart on the Australian Airplay Chart, nor the ARIA Charts, as it was not released for sale as an individual download.
