Nicolae Filip (March 3, 1926 15 May 2009) was born in the village of Sofia, Bălţi to a family of farmers. He was an expert in the field of physics, and contributed significantly to the study of "The spread of ultrashort radio waves." He was elected an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.[1]

He was the Chancellor of Bălţi's State University "Alecu Russo".

Bălţi Municipal Council Decision Nr. 11/24 on 03.04.2001, the recorded in the Book of Honor by assigning him the title "Honorary Citizen mun. Bălţi."
