Niclas Andersén (born 28 April 1988) is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenseman.[1] He is currently playing under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played in the Swedish Hockey League with Leksands IF and Brynäs IF and Severstal Cherepovets in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, 114th overall.
After returning to the SHL to captain Brynäs IF in the 2014–15 season, Andersén opted to finally pursue a North American career, in agreeing to a one-year entry-level conrtract as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins on 15 June 2015.[2]
