Dr Niamh Donoghue is a fictional character in the BBC soap opera Doctors, played by Jessica Regan. Niamh was introduced as a General practitioner at The Mill. She made her first appearance on 1 May 2014.

Development

Producer Peter Lloyd promised more to come popular couple Al Haskey and Niamh, Lloyd continued: "There was an immediate chemistry between Al and Niamh - but the trouble is that they don't quite know each other as well as they think they do. That will catch them out after Christmas.[1]

Reception

Regan won 'Best Newcomer' at the 2015 British Soap Awards.[2] Regan's win marked the first time Doctors had won an awards at the event since 2010. Speaking to Digital Spy about the result, Lorna Laidlaw who plays Mrs Tembe commented: "We were all ecstatic. Beforehand we were like, 'It's ridiculous, what's the point of us turning up here every year?!' So it was time - it always is time."[3]
