Nguyễn Hữu Thắng (born July 1972[1] in Vinh, Vietnam) is a retired Vietnamese football player, and current manager of Sông Lam Nghệ An in Vinh.

He was the captain of Vietnam national football team. He went to Sông Lam Nghệ An in 2005.

Early life

Hữu Thắng was born July 1972 in Vinh, Nghệ An but his origin is in Đức Thọ, Hà Tĩnh. His family moved from Đức Thọ to live in Vinh. His parent worked at Nghệ An Print Company (his mother died).

Thanks to the talent and enthusiasm, he attended football talent in Sông Lam Nghệ An early (high school, in the 1980s). At that time, Sông Lam Nghệ An is not known, until 1989 when the National A1 Group B championship, is exceptional to rank teams. Because of his poor family and because of our passion for round ball, his academic results not very prominent.

International career

He had capped Vietnam national football team to attend the regional tournament as the 1996 Tiger Cup, 1998 Tiger Cup, 2000 Tiger Cup, 2002 Tiger Cup, the football tournament at 1995 SEA Games, 1997 SEA Games, 1999 SEA Games, 2001 SEA Games.

Even he has been played for national team at the qualification of FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup.
