Never Go Back is the eighteenth book in the Jack Reacher series written by Lee Child.[1] It was published on 3 September 2013 in the United States.[2] The book continues the storyline covered in the novels 61 Hours, Worth Dying For and A Wanted Man. The novel, like a majority of the Jack Reacher novels, is narrated in third-person point of view.
Plot
Jack Reacher finally reaches Virginia, but his long-awaited meeting with Susan isn't meant to be. Instead, he finds a new commanding officer of the 110 MP; Susan has been arrested; and Reacher is about to be recalled back into the Army. He's also been accused of a sixteen-year old homicide and he may have a teenage daughter.
Critical reception
Lee Child’s bodacious action hero, Jack Reacher, has already tramped through 17 novels and three e-book singles. But his latest, “Never Go Back,” may be the best desert island reading in the series. It’s exceptionally well plotted. And full of wild surprises. And wise about Reacher’s peculiar nature. And positively Bunyanesque in its admiring contributions to Reacher lore.
—JANET MASLIN, The New York Times[3]
Film adaptation
The 2012 film, Jack Reacher, was a film adaptation of the 2005 Reacher novel, One Shot starring Tom Cruise as Reacher. The film's box office surpassed $200 million worldwide, leading to Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions moving forward with the development of a second Reacher film adapted from Never Go Back.[4]
