Nehtaur is a town in Bijnor district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Geography

Nehtaur is located at 29°20′N 78°23′E / 29.33°N 78.38°E / 29.33; 78.38. It is situated at an altitude of 728 meters above sea level.[1] Operated by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), Nehtaur Bus Station is a minor bus terminal and connects the town to state highway. Regular buses ply from Nehtaur to Dhampur, Bijnor, Nagina, Nurpur, Haldaur and Afzalpur. Also, the station provides short distance services to nearby places. The nearest railway station is Dhampur Railway Station [2]

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[3] Nehtaur had a population of 44,301. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nehtaur has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 64%. In Nehtaur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Economics

Nehtaur is famous for Mango & Cotton industries, its rich culture and harmony.It also has the highest selling BPCL petrol pump of the area.

Eminent Personalities

Nehtaur produced great personalities such as poet Syed Sajjad Hyder Yildirim [1][6], his daughter Jnanpith Award winner Qurratulain Hyder, High Court Judge Syed Jarrar Haider [7], Region Magistrate Syed Masheer Haider, Army commander in Chief Syed Faqrul Hassan Zaidi; Daroga (Inspector) Syed Iqbal Mahdi his daughter, Dr Zohra Iqbal, viii Red & brevry award winner Syed Mohsin Hussain Zaidi a resident of Nehtaur; Syed Raunaq Hussain, a wealthy landowner of the area, sat in office for over 22 years. Azaz Ali was a Civil Engineer of 1800s from the then Thomason College of Civil Engineering (now known as Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee). Azaz Ali and his future generations were known by their title of "Miran".
