Neamatpur is the Western neighbourhood in Asansol,[1] Barddhaman district in the Indian state of West Bengal.
Geography
Neamatpur is located at 23°42′50″N 86°52′50″E / 23.713835°N 86.880694°E.
Asansol is composed of undulating latterite soil. This area lies between two mighty rivers – the Damodar and the Ajay. They flow almost parallel to each other in the region – the average distance between the two rivers is around 30 km. For ages the area was heavily forested and infested with plunderers and marauders. The discovery of coal led to industrialisation of the area and most of the forests have been cleared.[2] At the western fringe of the area the Barakar forms the boundary with Jharkhand. The main Railway Stations are Asansol Jn and Sitarampur Jn.
Economy
It is in the heart of the coal mining zone.[3] Some people in Neamatpur are also engaged with work in the Railways. Nearest police station is Neamatpur Investigation Centre.
History
History of Belrui: Late Hari Hor Roy was the most ruling zamindar of Belrui, Neamtpur, Asansol, Bankura, Raniganj, Burdwan as well as in Kolkata from Belrui, West Bengal. His next generation are Srifor Roy, Narayan Chandra Roy, Jogeshwar Roy, Gour Chandra Roy, Radha Gobindo Roy, Neel Kontho Roy, Kalyani Roy & Chitrani Roy. Before getting the title as ROY from east India company from British their title was Singh. In the year 1848, the zamindar family got the title roy from singh. And there is a road which belongs with the name of Sambhu nath roy road (S.N.Roy road). And Early in Moghul and British Raj it used to be the resting place of moving platoons. Today Neamatpur is a busy trading hub.
History of Domhani: The dynasty was start by late Raja Ram Roy(Chauhan family) belongs from Mainpuri District, UP.
Educational Institutions
The Belrui N.G. Institution and Jaladhi Kumari Devi Uchcha Balika Bidyalaya are the two most renowned schools in and around Neamatpur. These two schools have produced many board exam Toppers in the Asansol region. The Nearest English Medium Schools are St. Patricks High School, St. Anthony School, St. Vincents School, Loreto Convent and The Assembly of God Church School, Sodepur. There is also Priyadarshini Public School nearby to Neamatpur. An Urdu Medium School Islamia Girls Junior High School is at Jama Masjid Lane in Neamatpur (East).
There is an old primary school in the midst of the locality named "Kalidasi Vidyabithi" which is now upgraded to middle school stage. This school is named after the grandmother of late Haridas Bhattacharya hailing from Bankura. Gobinda Chakraborty and Saroj Chakraborty were the teachers of this school since its inception. Hari Hor Roy family was the dominant ruling zamindar of the village who used to hold sway in early days of the Srifor, Narayan Chandra, Jogeshwar, Gour Chandra, Radha Gobindo, Neel Kontho Roy were the elder members of the family, although next generations took to business and legal/medical professions consequent upon the dissolution of zamindary system. Neel Kontho Roy have two daughters named as Kalyani Roy and Chitrani Roy. Kalyani Roy got married with Arup Krishna Roy, who is son of late Bimal Krishna Roy. And Chitrani get married with Pranab Kr. Singh. The next generation of Arup Krishna Roy and Kalyani Roy are Arpan Roy, Arpita Roy & Archita Roy. And of Pranab Kr. Singh and Chitrani Roy next generation are Vishal Singh and Riya Singh.
Park and Interesting Places
There is a Water Park, at Neamatpur Chitaranjan Road, near Neamatpur Chorangi more,NH2 named Panorama Country Club and Resort. It has an Amusement Park cum Water Park for both kids and adults. There are several water park rides like Kids Pool, Wave pool for Adults, Cyclone, Slides. The amusement rides includes Dashing Car, Jumping Kangaroo, Sweet Cat, Gyroscope, Twin Dragon, several other land games and many more. There is a lovely Statue Park and a Large Food Court which serves delicious multi cuisine. The amusement park claims to have the biggest ghost house of Eastern India named the "Horror House".
The Country Club has a Hotel, Conference Hall, two Banquet Halls, two Big Lawns. Maithon Dam and the Kalyaneshwari Temple is roughly 7 to 8 km from there.
Demographics
It mainly consists of Bengali, Gujarati, Marwari , Hindi and Urdu-speaking people from Bihar, Uttar Pardes and Jharkhand.
Transport
Road connectivity to Neamatpur is provided by the Grand Trunk Road. One can go to Kolkata, Durgapur and Dhanbad easily, travelling by the Grand Trunk Road. One can also go to Purulia via Dishergarh and to Chittaranjan through the State Highway to Purulia and the Chittaranjan Road respectively.
Regular Minibus services are available from Asansol City Bus Terminus, Barakar, Chittaranjan and Dishergarh. All the mini buses provide a stoppage at Neamatpur. Some Express and Long Distance Government Buses also provide a stoppage at Neamatpur. Inter-state superfast buses plying to Dhanbad, Bokaro Steel City, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Giridih and Madhupur also stop at Neamatpur. Direct Bus connectivity to Kolkata is provided by South Bengal State Transport Corporation buses plying from Barakar, Chittaranjan and Purulia, else one can easily go to Asansol City Bus Terminus and avail bus services.
The nearest Railway Station is the Sitarampur Junction. The Howrah-Delhi rail track separates into the Main and Grand Chord lines at Sitarampur and rejoins at Mughalsarai. Hence many important trains on the Howrah - Delhi passes through and have stoppages at Sitarampur.
Now a wide 4 track Highway has been built connecting G.T.Road Neamatpur to IISCO Burnpur and in near future it should be extended to NH2. Earlier this was a rail track of IISCO between Kulti and Neamatpur. This railway had been used for goods train carrying IISCO materials only. There were so many ferocious reptiles & animals were moving around the rail track. Now they have gone away. Two famous Ponds named Banka and KamarBandh are also situated in the bank of this Highway. An ancient Maa Kali Temple is also situated in the West of the of Village. And The oldest Mosque of this region is Jama Masjid situated at Jama Masjid Lane G.T.Road Neamatpur East of the neighbourhood.
