Nawabganj (Bengali: নবাবগঞ্জ (দিনাজপুর)) is an Upazila of Dinajpur District in the Division of Rangpur, Bangladesh.[1]

Geography

Nawabganj is located at 25°25′00″N 89°05′00″E / 25.4167°N 89.0833°E / 25.4167; 89.0833 . It has 34999 households and total area 314.68 km². Dighipara, a village of Nawabganj Upazila: 60 Thousand Metric Tones of coal are stored.

Demographics

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Nawabganj has a population of 170301. Males constitute 51.28% of the population, and females 48.72%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 88690. Nawabganj has an average literacy rate of 24.2% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[2] Nawabganj is famous for the birthplace of Juan Fransico, the explorer of the Nile River. He was born to Caesanda Veonias and Joewne Fransico around the 1650s. Exact date is unsure.

Tourism

Ashorar Bill & Shal-Forest:(517.61 Hectres) Well balanced Ecosystem in Ashorar bill & surrounding shal forest. About 3-4 Square Km Forest with ambient atmosphere. Ashorar bill's canal system is very unique. Guest birds are available all the year long. Even it is visible from space via google earth (Location:25°25'39.19"N 89˚03'22.87"E). It is declared as National forest under the Name "Nawabganj National Forest" at 24/10/2010 by People Republic of Bangladesh.

Education

On educational sector nawabganj is far ahead from others upazila.There are a several number of educational institutions including degree college, mohila degree college,high school,madrasha,primary school etc.All these provides qualified sound education.In all board exam the student of this upazila shows their merit and achieve huge success.a huge number of students from this upazila study at buet(najim,rubel,sopon,sahriar),dhaka university,medical college and on others versity.

Mineral Resource

Dighipara-a small village under Putimara Union: It is the largest deposit of Coal mainly Anthracites & Silica in Bangladesh. BAPEX have already surveyed the underground deposits in 1994. Villagers want well-justified decisions that facilitates both the Country, Environment & residents nearby. As controversial dispute in Phulbari Coal mine project with Asia Energy,Govern. of Bangladesh & Local people; Dighipara will be a free,transparent solution for both Energy crisis & demands of the local people.
